This ski tour passes below
some of the most beautiful Dolomite mountains, like the Civetta,
the Pelmo, the Tofane, the Lagazuoi, the Settsass and the
Sella,
where between 1915 and the end of World War I, Italian
and Austrian soldiers clashed in cruel and brutal battles,
culminating in the famous explosion of the Col di Lana peak
in 1916.
Today, numerous ski slopes wind their way through the middle
of these former war settings that up to today have preserved
numerous testimonials in memory of war events that should
never be repeated again. It’s here that unspeakable tragedies occurred not only as
a result of military attacks, but also following natural
events such as avalanches, bitter cold and snowstorms.
Therefore, between one spectacular and panoramic slope and
another, we can also expect to see a great “open air” museum
with hundreds of war artefacts, communication trenches and
tunnels at the edges of the various downhill runs that won’t
escape the attentive eye of interested observers. It
will be a new experience for visitors and opportunity to
combine fun and highly educational history lessons.
