Cortina d’Ampezzo is the Dolomite
area perhaps most closely related to the history of skiing
as a snow vacation. Already at the beginning of last century
European aristocrats began skiing on snow-covered meadows
with two wooden boards strapped to their feet. Cortina also
became famous for the 1956 Olympic Games which, in addition
to having been an incredible event that left its mark on
all those who experienced it, both near and far, was also
the first Olympics to be televised: its images, still in
black and white at that time, already travelled around the
world!
Those who decide to spend their winter vacation in the Dolomites
must take at least a one-day excursion to this legendary
location and its environs with no less than 140 kilometres
of prepared slopes. And any excursion must include a visit
to the “historical” pistes: the
“Forcella Rossa” of the Tofana,
the Olympic descent from Promedes to Rumerlo, the “Vertigine
Bianca”, the “Cacciatori”, and the “Vitelli” slope of the
Faloria, where the Olympic giant slalom was held more than
half a century ago.
There are various itineraries that can be selected depending
on the participants’ interests, expectations and physical
condition.
